Oh the perils of gambling.  This is a rather interesting History factoid regarding Deacon Brodie, who interestingly enough was hanged on my kid's b-day.  Quite an interesting life he lead.

Peace sign a symbol of evil?

These people are kidding right?  I have never heard of anyone thinking that the "peace" sign is evil or Satanistic.  Hippie maybe but not evil.

Video Game College Course

I can understand there being some kind of "History of Games" section in a World History class but to have some kind of degree in video games sounds a litty nutty to me. 

RIP TO THE VHS

We've all seen the signs so it shouldn't be that much of a shock that VHS is no more.  Dead.  Gone.  I noticed a while back that Blockbuster's shelves were sans VHS and when the latest Harry Potter came out, I couldn't find a VHS copy for my mom.  I searched high and low on the internet for it - nada.  I wonder if it would be a good idea to buy a VCR now and store it for future use?  Hmmm.

Bono or Stipe?

I'm sure a lot of people choose U2 over R.E.M. based on Bono alone - these days more than ever I'm sure.  However, my heart goes to Michael Stipe.  My first real concert was an R.E.M. concert and although I needed binoculars to see, I had a great time.  Still have the t-shirt.  :o)

Standardized Testing

I can tell you exactly why there are standardized tests these days rather than the Socrates approach.  The Socrates approach to teaching only works when the students are actively participating and expressing their own views - that is all fine and dandy in a college classroom but when it comes to lower education, what usually ends up happening during discussions is that only a few students participate while the other sleep, doodle or just feign interest. 

Police arrest wrong woman for robbery

Police arrest wrong woman for robbery.  I can see how she was arrested.  The actual robber looks like her twin!!  I'm glad it all got straightened out and hopefully the ordeal will teach her to pick her friends more wisely.

RIP Ed Bradley

It is indeed a sad day for news today.  Ed Bradley was taken from us too soon and will be grately missed.

Jury Duty

Jury duty sucks.  No ifs, ands or buts about it.  I had to report to downtown Detroit at 7:45 am on Monday.  Not only does getting called to jury duty sucks, but when you have to drive in a downtown area like Detroit when you have no idea what you're doing really sucks.  I had to ask directions twice.  Don't get me wrong - I understand that jury duty is important - but with a husband works out of state and cannot help out, taking care of my 3 kids is my #1 priority - not some dummy who can't follow the rules of society.  Luckiy, by some miracle, I didn't get on the jury so all is well.
